Meet Dora! She embraced her crafty creativity and vast pop culture knowledge in August 2020 when she first began selling her wares to our local Cincinnati community. Friends had suggested that Dora try selling her creations, so she purchased a vendor booth at Westwood Second Saturdays, a lovely outdoor art show.
Our Story
In the not-too-distant past...
It started off slowly, but gained momentum as her crafts piqued the interest of 20-somethings and youths, with each event instilling confidence in her team. In 2021, Understandably Cliche Crafts was met by high demand and appeal at the Cincinnati Comic Expo. To end the year on a high note, Understandably Cliche Crafts vended at the Oak Hills High School Craft Fair, which had an awesome turnout and gained some new supporters.
Our greatest joy is seeing a visitor’s eyes light up with whimsy after they recognize an image that is dear to their heart. We especially find gratification in the positive reactions from our younger audience. Our goal is to appeal to all ages as we broaden our inventory. Dora & her team keep a constant vigilant eye on what's "IN" right now.
The market is always changing!
From pixel art with Perler beads to handmade paintings and jewelry, everything sold by Understandably Cliche Crafts is made in-house by Dora & her team. Pop culture pixel patterns are drawn, colored and fine-tuned before entering bead assembly. Getting the colors just right is very important, then the melting stage begins, with a high level of scrutiny to make sure the image quality, albeit low-resolution, is not lost to the eye of the beholder.
Some are single size images, with others being part of coaster sets secured by cork paper backing, or, largest of all, decorative display pieces that will liven up your shelves and walls with your favorite pop culture designs.
Most of Dora’s paintings are acrylic on canvas and can take up to several hours, with her knowledge of art supplies guiding the way. Her jewelry is one of Understandably Cliche’s most recent endeavors, where Dora deftly plies wire around UV Resin crystals, vials and larger bead pieces as wall-hangings. From magnets to keychains to paintings, if you would like to have one on your fridge, your school locker, or in your dorm room, your man cave—wherever—let us know and we will make it happen. They also make for wonderful gifts!
With the 2022 craft season approaching, Dora & her team are looking forward to another great year, having more experience, pulse and presence in their community. Look for more niche items to be on display this year, as we've taken our audience’s suggestions over the last year to heart as we seek to expand and improve our stock.
